All flight crew members flew 35 missions, with no casualties, had same ground crew thruout our tour (from Grand Island, Neb until we left Tinian). On stopover in Calif., we had to change an engine and ended up with 3 silver props and one green one., so we always knew "our" plane which was taken from us before we started our missions. Great crew, great airplane. Triplett was a superb pilot, saved us many times by skillful piloting, including landing with damages/short on fuel, if memory serves, 6 times.

We had a great crew and the 40th Squadron included many similar devoted
airmen who sweated out the 90 seconds it took to get 70 tons of a loaded
B-29 up to 140 mph before we ran out of 10,000 feet of runway. We all
waited for the nosewheel to start bumping at 95 mph and for Triplett to
curse until he had to pull it off the ground at 135 mph and hope that the 50
foot drop at the end of the runway would help get us airborne. The
B-29 was designed to take off at 60 tons, including fuel, people and
armament. Many of the loads were 65 tons and once or twice 70 tons,
which had Ed King muttering all thru briefings and pre-flight checks.
Our plane had no "nickname", but our # was 52.

The crew received two DFCs: one for the May 25/26 night incendiary mission and one for one of the July 14-23 mining missions.
