The 6th Bomb Group

This was a night mining mission involving 23 planes from the 6th Bomb Group:

The second mining mission was flown 30 March to the Inland Sea area south of the Kure Naval Base.  Results, as assessed by radarscope photographs, were excellent.  All ships returned safely.

Resume of Mission:  94 aircraft dispatched to minefields Love, Item, Jig and Roger.  39 aircraft Love: 11 aircraft Jig: 28 aircraft Item: 9 aircraft Roger.  Seven aircraft non-effective.  Results estimated as excellent.  Eastern entrance of Shimonoseki Straits closed for two weeks.  Traffic restricted to and from Kure and Hiro Shima for one week.  Passage of large vessels to Sasebo restricted for one week.  One aircraft crash landed on return to base.  Enemy air opposition none (1 attack), AA light and heavy, meager to   moderate, inaccurate to accurate.  Average mine load 12,094 lbs.  Average gas reserve 879 gallons.
