The 6th Bomb Group

This was a night incendiary mission involving 30 aircraft of the 6th Bomb Group:

Final mission in June for the Sixth was flown on the 28th. Late that afternoon thirty-two B-29s took off to bomb Moji on the southern shores of the Shimonoseki Straits. Planes on the night incendiary attack found a 10/10 undercast over Moji, which removed all enemy opposition and striking clusters aimed by radar, burned out .3 sq mi of the urban area.

Resume of Mission: Photo reconnaissance revealed damage to city totaled .32 sq. miles or 28.8% of built up urban area. Only 1 A/C bombed the Primary target visually. Seven E/A sighted made 1 attack. No claims. Heavy, medium and light flak, meager and generally inaccurate over the target. Seven A/C were non-effective. Two B-29s landed at Iwo Jima. Average bomb load: 14,302 lbs. Average fuel reserve: 747 gallons.
