The 6th Bomb Group

Tinian North Field - Southwest Corner

The southwest corner was originally the site of the Seabee camps. However, as the airfield was expanded, this became an additional parking area. Further expansion to the south was prevented by a plateau. The Seabees moved their supplies south on top of the plateau.

Here is a picture of the southwest corner of the airbase, facing north.

Another picture of the southwest corner, facing northeast. The photographer appears to be standing on the hill which is south of the airfield. Note the tents next to the nearest airplane. The ground crew presumably used these tents during the day (I am not aware of any air crews who had any desire to sleep next to their aircraft).
